Formed in 1993 at the world-renowned Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, Apocalyptica began life as a loving, lo-fi nod to Metallica from four classically-trained musicians. The project would take on a life of its own when they finally released Plays Metallica By Four Cellos in 1996.
Unbeknownst to Apocalyptica, they'd just boarded a rocket ship that would propel them through eight rapturously received records, a staggering six million records sold, and a relentless touring schedule.
And it was on the anniversary - when the band's debut turned 25 - that an idea came about. The result was a sonic love-letter - an album they'd simply title Plays Metallica, Vol. 2, and the passion poured into the recording project is plain to hear and see.
Judging by the deep cuts and recent highlights making up Apocalyptica's ninth album, this is no mere best-of. It would see them featuring Rob Trujillo on a storming rendition of thrash classic The Four Horsemen as a lead single, followed by a stunning rendition The Unforgiven II taken from Metallica's 1997 release, Reload. For their third single, the band released a unique reimagining of One, taken from Metallica's 1988 landmark ...And Justice For All. Featuring Metallica frontman James Hetfield voicing a spoken-word rendition of those inimitable, now immortal lyrics, it stands as far more than a unique collaboration. It is nothing short of history in the making.

I don't even know where to start. There were so many moments where I found myself standing there in complete amazement at their level of talent. Their passion for their music is so apparent in their shows and they had great stage present. I have already told several people that when they come again, we will all be going,
Today i'm not feeling too wordy so I"ll sum it up to: I can't wait until they come again!!
Absolutely amazing-a must see-these guys killed it.
This was a great evening of metal, rock and classical elements. Cello playing like you've never seen it before.
The show was amazing, since then I have bought all their CDs and hope they swing back to Toronto on their next North American tour.
I went to see this event because of Dir en grey. Actually, I went to two of their shows. Really friendly guys too. And surprisingly, the opener (Evaline) and Apocalyptica were amazing too. They are all still on tour....go see them haha. I would totally buy all the other shows if I had the funds.
Wasnt too sure that once apocalyptica made it in Canada, I would want to see them. But it was a great show and a lot of energy. Opener was crazy which got you going before apocalyptica got on stage. Definitely should check these guys out if you've heard them on the radio. That would have been my 5th time seeing them.
I went to see Apocalyptica and ended up enjoying Evaline the most. I wasn't aware that they would be there, so when they came on stage I was a little confused but ended up finding them the best performance. There was great energy, and they were really friendly at the merch shop afterward. I bought their cds and now I'm in love with the California band. Apocalyptica had a rocky performance. They had instrument malfunctions most of the time, and when they played Sakura and Beautiful it's clear they had tuning issues. However, as usual their energy was great and their personality and making jokes about their playing definitely made up for it.
I have seen them before and that's why I came again. I won't be coming again. Poor sound, poor choice of songs, poor, poor show.
WOW... absolutely amazingly breathtaking show loved it
Apocalyptica was fantastic, although I didn't really enjoy the bands they played with. The sounds quality at the Sound Academy was also sub par; mics cutting out, bad levels etc.
This is my first Alpocalyptica concert and must say it was pretty much the way I expected, filled with good energy, a bit noisy at the beginning but clearer towards the end, but an overall good show I would recommend especially for “hard-core” fans as most of the songs they performed were trashier-metal rather than the soft/dreamy.
