About

South African-born New Zealand comedian Urzila Carlson has been a comedic tour de force since first setting foot on the stage in 2008. In 2019 she became the highest-selling comedian in the 33-year history of The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and made her Netflix debut as one of the acts featured in the worldwide comedy series, COMEDIANS of the world. She has become a television favorite by being a series regular on Australia and New Zealand’s versions of the award-winning comedy panel show Have You Been Paying Attention? as well as a contestant on the second season of Taskmaster NZ. She has also won no shortage of awards, taking home the People's Choice Award for most tickets sold at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2019, 2022 and 2023. She has also won the 2019 Rielly Comedy Award from the Variety Artists Club of NZ, Best Female Comedian at the New Zealand Comedy Guild Awards (she’s a six-time winner), the New Zealand International Comedy Festival’s People’s Choice Award in 2014 and 2015, and the Sydney Comedy Festival’s Director’s Choice Award in 2017. Carlson was the 2019 Ambassador of South African Tourism for Australia and New Zealand. Her book, Rolling With the Punchlines, made her a bestselling author in 2016. In 2021 she launched her podcast That’s Enough Already! — which hit the top of the Comedy charts in Australia and New Zealand and won Best New Podcast at the NZ Podcast Awards.

    We got there a little late because Traffic was atrocious in Toronto, and when we got to the theater our seats were being occupied so we got upgrade to box seats right near the stage. Honestly my favorite comedian of all time. So relatable, I have never laughed so much in my life.

    Urzila Carlson is absolutely hilarious. She cracked on for over an hour and a half and had us all laughing so hard the entire time. She’s an excellent story teller and very physically expressive. 10/10 performance, will absolutely see her again.
