About

Patty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together.

Over two decades, the 2x GRAMMY Award winner - and 7x nominee - and Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement award winner, has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for "[writing] cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people...[her] songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends."

2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist's GRAMMY Award-winning 10th studio recording, PATTY GRIFFIN. One of the most deeply personal recordings of Griffin's remarkable two-decade career and first-ever eponymous LP, PATTY GRIFFIN made a top 5 debut on Billboard's "Independent Albums" chart amidst unprecedented worldwide acclaim, and later, a prestigious GRAMMY Award for "Best Folk Album."

Griffin's new album, CROWN OF ROSES, is a deeply personal and introspective work that explores themes of identity, nature, family, and womanhood. Emerging from a creative drought during the pandemic, Griffin found herself re-evaluating the stories she'd long told herself. The result is an eight-track collection that is both sparse and emotionally rich, blending folk, Americana, and blues. With CROWN OF ROSES, Griffin offers a record that's both grounded and transcendent -- one that invites listeners to release old narratives, embrace new truths, and stay truly alive while they're here. Having crafted a rich catalog that chronicles love and death, heartache and joy, connection and detachment, Patty Griffin continues to push her art forward, as always imbuing every effort with compassion and craft, uncanny perception, and ever-increasing ingenuity.

  • One of the true living greats!!

by TheGooch on 2015-11-05Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Patty is one of the greatest living North American singer/songwriter treasures. She maintains a low profile but continues to be one of the most sought after collaborators from Rock, gospel, country to folk music, she is revered in the music industry and backs up her song writing prowess with a haunting, sweet and powerful voice. She is a gem and is never to be missed.

  • a surprise at Patty Griffin concert

    by bob55 on 2014-06-23Winter Garden Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Patty Griffin was great. Maybe too powerful a voice for venue but overall a splendid show. The surprise was the opening act Parker Millsap. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

  • Major disappointment

by stonemills on 2013-07-01The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

Patty Griffin was a massive disappointment. Her band was unforgivably sloppy. It felt like watching a first rehearsal. There were so many missed cues, missed notes, the vocals for both Patty and her band were terribly pitchy/off key. In particular, Craig Ross, tthe "bass player", or whatever he calls himself, was truly awful. The concert certainly wasn't helped by a terrible front-of-house sound, which was a grating mix of overwhelming muddy bass and teeth-gnashing highs. Yech. I was expecting a high-end, world class show with a group of fine musicians supporting one of the best songwriters of her generation. Instead, I saw a show not much better than a random gig at a local pub. Definitely not worth the money or the drive to see this again.

Patty was absolutely perfect! Stunningly on-pitch, she makes the modern crop of reality show vocal contestants look simply pathetic (and even some top-selling artists too!) The only thing that would have been nice to hear is some of her older stuff. Max Gomez opened for her and he was a real treat too! Great artist. Very authentic.

  • Patty Griffin is simply amazing

by TheGooch on 2013-06-25Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I love that Patty keeps coming back to Vancouver - she is the most talented singer, songwriter that no one (in Canada) has ever heard of! A deeply emotional and captivating singer/story teller who's vocal instrument is at its best in a stripped down setting. Her latest album seems very close to home and personal suited perfectly for the Chan Centre. If you've not seen her live you are missing out.

  • You will always remember a Patty Griffin show

by bearlicious on 2013-06-20Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Patty in concert twice and words cannot describe how amazing she and her band are in concert. One of those rare artists who sounds amazing on record but a zillion (yes I said zillion) times better live. I will buy tickets as long as she'll perform.

Was a great show and I liked the venue - Only complaint is that we were very close which was great for seeing but the sound wasn't fantastic. We were on stage left in front of a speaker so I think the sound would have been better further back. I hadn't been to this venue before. All in all a good show, missed some songs I wanted to hear but happy I went :)

Excellent voice and performer with a fine supporting group of musicians. Looking forward to seeing her next time she comes to Toronto.

  • Little woman - big voice

by PattyGroupie on 2013-06-13The Danforth Music Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Patty still has the big steady voice, the guitar chops, the great arrangements, and excellent sidemen. She sprinkled her concert with new and old songs, each with lyrics that make you sit up and listen, and melodies you hum the rest of the night. The Hall is perfect for this type of act - great accoustics, sight lines, excellent staff! Thanks, DMH, for bringing in this legendary singer-songwriter, and thanks to Patty for coming to Canada. We love you!
