Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and six division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams(Opens in new tab) in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999 — the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 73 times to date.

Thank you to everybody for all your help. You’ll never know how grateful we are for your help making my uncles first playoff game the success it was. Highly recommend. I wish I had of gotta the fan service members names but they were near section 324. Keep up the fabulous work all of you. Definitely deserve a raise for their stellar service and positive attitudes. Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Andrea and Dave

Attended the Leafs first home play off game against Ottawa. Amazing experience. Tickets were a bit pricey but I had a blast with my daughter and grandson! Quick entry to arena, lots of snacks and good food to choose from. In seat service was really quick. We will be back when they are in the final two teams and bring home the Stanley cup!!!!!!

  • Nice game

by Pame on 2025-04-15Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Well, it was my first Maple Leafs game and the arena experience was really nice... The entrance was fast and it was not too hard to find my seat. Unfortunately, my friends were seated in another section so I was by myself during the game but it was still a good experience... The most important thing is that the Leafs won!

I drive an hour from 401 west and can only afford 2x a year in the lower bowl. I love it every time. Sadly, my stomach was bothering me , and i left during the game. Overall it's always a fantastic experience that I always loo forward to.

  • Entertaining night of hockey.

by Roadtripguy on 2025-03-16Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Finally got to see the Leafs in person! Will definitely want to see them again next season! Good view of rink from section 310 in my reasonable priced selfie seat ($134). Corridor crowded between periods trying to explore building, but was not surprised for that. Wish I had more time. Anyway, enjoyed my visit, look forward to next time.

  • First hockey game

by Jesper on 2025-01-14Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Visited from Sweden and I had a great time on my first hockey game with Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Vancouver Canucks. Easy to get inside and very friendly staff showing me where to go and so on. Easy to get around and a lot to choose from when it comes to food and drinks, but very pricey. Too bad the Leafs lost, but what can you do. :-)

  • Amazing experience with my 9 year old grandson

    by Wendy T on 2025-01-08Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

It was an amazing experience. I have gone to games many times but the Toronto / Boston game on Saturday night was one for the memory bank. I decided at the last minute to take my Grandson for his first time to an NHL game as he was visiting from Nova Scotia. It was absolutely amazing watching him. Lathan is a goalie for U9 in Nova Scotia and has a bit of support in the goalie world. His last name is Lundquist (lol) so that gives him a boost plus his Uncle Even Fitzpatrick played goalie for St Louis Blues and Florida Panthers. He was thrilled that Uncle Evans teams played at the Scotiabank Arena and now he was there. That was wow in his eyes. Lathan was amazed at the size of the arena and was so engaged in the whole game. He was lit up like a lightbulb. It was Go Leafs Go all night long. I was hoping we would appear on the jumbo tron or catch a T shirt but we didn't get lucky. The best was when we were hurrying to get back to our seats, we crossed paths with Carleton the bear. We asked for a picture, could tell he was in a hurry as well but he stopped to take the time. Lathan will never forget that and neither will I. I believe this Maple Leafs fan will be a Fan Forever and will exceed in his goalie skills after his experience watching his #1 team. Excitement was in the air! When he went back to Nova Scotia on Monday, his experience at the game was the first thing he spoke about. This game definately made a mark on this young man. Thank you for allowing me to tell you our story.
