Toronto Maple Leafs History

The Toronto Maple Leafs have 13 Stanley Cup Championships and six division championships, with more than 60 former players, coaches and executives in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Maple Leafs were one of the NHL's founding teams(Opens in new tab) in 1917. They originally were known as the Arenas and then the St. Patricks before taking their current name in 1927 after Conn Smythe bought the franchise.

The team won two Stanley Cup Championships in the NHL's first five years and returned to the finals in 1932 behind the "Kid Line" of eventual Hall of Famers Charlie Conacher, Joe Primeau, and Busher Jackson. In 1942, they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to win the first of five Stanley Cup Championships under coach Hap Day. The addition the following year of center Ted Kennedy helped the Leafs maintain their dominance, and resulted in another title in 1951.

The Leafs won three Stanley Cup Championships in a row starting in 1962, and another in the 1966-1967 season, thanks to a roster brimming with players who would end up in the Hall of Fame: George Armstrong, Johnny Bower, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Tim Horton, Allan Stanley, Bob Pulford, and Frank Mahovlich.

The team returned to the conference finals in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, then again in 1998-1999 — the latter trip powered by eventual franchise scoring leader Mats Sundin. The Toronto Maple Leafs have made the Playoffs a total of 73 times to date.

  • Very good

    by Jake P on 2024-12-31Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Overall, very good. My one concern is size of washrooms in certain areas based on recent and prior visits (e.g. club area in behind red seats - one toilet and six or seven urinals for how many fans? - and Hot Stove restaurant where there are large line ups for a completely inadequate facility for the size of the restaurant, these are 2 examples). There's probably nothing that can be done about that, just very poor design at the outset, that obviously wasn't well thought out. Other than then that the seats sect 315 row STL were good, and staff were excellent - friendly and attentive. Bar area in behind with live band between periods was a pleasant surprise. Other than the washroom situation, Hot Stove is excellent too - atmosphere, staff and food. Would have been nice if the Leaf team showed up for the event :-)

by Oh yes we did! on 2024-12-09Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What a fantastic venue. Great people working there to ensure our fan experience was awesome - and it was! Everybody in the building was pumped up throughout the game - not just the Toronto Maple Leafs. (We lost, but was a win-win experience).

  • Amazing night

  • Accessibility fail

by Mark on 2024-11-23Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Fantastic once in the building. Brutal accessibility for wheelchairs outside. Try coming to a game with someone who is totally incapacitated and no voice. Actually think of the drop off, leaving the defenceless disabled person at the curb, find parking, return. Hopefully they havent been robbed or moved and hopefully its not raining, snowing or cold! Not ok MLSE or Scotiabank!

  • Great experience

by Strickland on 2024-11-19Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Great experience. Lots of line up to get in. Crowd was great

  • cheapest tickets but alright view

by Yara on 2024-11-16Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

we had the tickets in the far top back of the stadium and despite the disclaimer that the view might be obstructed, we had a clear view of the rink. i would say that sitting closer will give you a better experience as being so far away made it less involving, but it’s a great option if you don’t have too much money to spend

  • First Leaf Game

by Gervs on 2024-11-15Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The game wasn’t great but the venue was awesome I’ve been to a number of other barns in Canada this one is by far the best .. The sound, music , crowd interaction .. I had a great time hopefully the next game against Edmonton will be better game 🤙

  • Toronto / Boston NHL Game

by Pat on 2024-11-14Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed the experience at Scotiabank center. Staff was friendly and for the most part helpful. Navigating around the arena is a bit difficult right now with the construction going on, and with that, the signage needs to be better to direct people to the right section. Food prices were okay.

  • Excellent time

by Caperontheloose on 2024-11-12Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Had a really good time, used a cab/limo service and it could not have turned out any better, excellent experience. Everyone I encountered at Scotia Bank Arena were very friendly and helpful. Had a great time even though my team lost.

  • Always enjoy a Leaf Game

by Nat on 2024-10-22Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Game was great. Getting tickets was a nightmare through Ticketmaster. After 3 days of trying to buy resale tickets, I ended up buying a standard ticket the day of the event… Also transactions are still showing as pending. Thousands of dollars during my travels.

  • What a game!

by Sophie on 2024-10-14Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

First Ice Hockey game we've ever been to and we loved it, had no idea about the rules before going which was maybe a mistake, but we got the hang of it by the end of the game, the experience was great and I would recommend everyone needs to go at least once, I know I'll be going again for sure!

We have never seen an ice hockey game before but it was a fantastic experience. In Holland we have soccer but in Canada we have to see an ice hockey game. The crowd was great and it is a total family night with a lot of cheering children. Everyone is entertained from the beginning to the end. In one word : fantastic

  • A Great Evening

by Jelliott on 2024-10-08Scotiabank Arena - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I had such a fun time watching the Leafs. The atmosphere was amazing throughout the whole night. The arena was really easy to get to and had plenty of facilities inside. If you’ve never been to a hockey game before I would highly recommend it, an event to remember for sure!!
